The Pale-winged Starling (Onychognathus nabouroup) can be found in Angola, Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. It might be looked at as a dull and boring bird, but I consider its black shiny coat with the few orange patches on the wings and eyes as rather elegant and beautiful. The birds inhabit arid to semiarid regions, usually around rocky terrains, cliffs, and gorges. In these habitats, the starlings feed on anything between insects and fruits. I took their photographs at one of the viewpoints across the Fish River Canyon in southern Namibia in February 2007.
