The Pale Chanting Goshawk (Melierax canorus) is a medium-sized bird of prey occurring in southern Africa. In this region, the birds favor dry and open habitats preying on lizards, birds, small mammals, and larger insects. During a journey through the countryside, they can be seen quite commonly perching on telephone poles. I have photographed these raptors during a journey through northern Namibia in February 2007.
