Following my arrival from Kachchh, I joined friends/colleagues on a day tour to Abhaneri, approximately 100 km east of Jaipur.
This little village is famous for an enormous step well (‘Chand Baori’). The massive structure is approximately 20 m deep and was constructed in the 8th to 9th century! Just a couple of metres further is the similarly old Harshat Mata Temple. Both buildings were severely damaged during India’s invasion by Islamic rulers in the 10th century, but since then partly restored.
While I spent most of my following days in Jaipur with work and hassle with bureaucracy, I also had the chance to visit Pushkar, 145 km southwest of Jaipur – but please read about that in the following post!
