Blackbuck National Park, Gujarat:

After the short stop at the ancient ruins of Lothal, the next destination was the Blackbuck National Park (also known as Velavadar National Park).

The Blackbuck National Park near Bhavnagar is a protected patch of grassland inhabited by large numbers of antelopes. Apart from Blackbucks, you can expect to see Nilgai and several bird species. During the winter months, the area is also an important harrier roost (especially Pallid Harriers). Furthermore, the park is famous for its wolves and hyenas, but unfortunately I was not lucky enough to spot these elusive carnivores.

Following my safari through the Blackbuck National Park, I spent a day visiting the Wild Ass Sanctuary in the Little Rann of Kachchh – check out the next post!

  1. Thanks so much for taking us along on your safari, Matthias. Great to see this abundance of wildlife, and the blackbucks (which I have never seen or heard mention of) are especially gorgeous. Great photos!

  2. Excellent Pictures. Even as an photographer i can understand how much it is important to make every picture creative that you capture specially when it comes to wildlife. Even i started photography to inspire others and for helping them so that they can raise themselves as an photographer. You can have a look on my work at http://www.nitinkhanna.net/ and let me have feedback for my work.
